Foster Lamson Balch

Foster Lamson Balch (Sep. 19, 1835 - Apr. 6, 1918 [1]) was born in Canaan, New Hampshire to Dan Shaw and Dorothy Marston (Whittier) Balch.

Foster would go on to head the firm of Balch & Wetherbee listed as a "grading contractor" in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Foster was married twice. The first marriage was on January 14, 1863 to Nancy McArthur - together Foster and Nancy would have five children. Foster was married second to Helen Maria Lord on January 23, 1889.


Additional Note:

One source indicates that a town in Minnesota is actually named for Foster. Foster, Minnesota is listed as a "village of summer residences [4]" Foster is listed as the town's namesake and it identifies him as the head of the Big Stone Lake Navigation and Improvement Company.
