Dr. Hezekiah Balch, President of Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN is my 5-gr grandfather through his son, John Tennant Balch, granddaughter, Paulina Balch Jones, great-granddaughter, Carrie Elizabeth Jones McGaughey, whose daughter, Anna Estella McGaughey Cannon Reaves, was my grandmother. My mother was Loretta Mae Cannon Dykes.
There is extensive information on the Balch family. I will be glad to share what information that I have.
My grandmother was Mildred Janell Balch, daughter of Hezikiah B Balch & Mattie K Boswell Balch. I have been researching the family history, picking up where she left off. I have her original documents that she had of may of her ancestors - closely & distantly related to the Balch's. She was the "Collector" of the family. I know she got to meet some of the Balch's on the east coast years back, she enjoyed it so much and was often topic of discussions. It was great to browse your site and compare notes. Thanks for all the hard work.

I have found that there is a good book on the web, titled "Genealogy of the Balch Families in America", by Galusha Burchard Balch, published in 1897. Look in Google books.
